### **Poland Accused of Orchestrating Attempted Assassination of Russian General Vladimir Alekseyev, FSB Alleges Deep Involvement**
In a dramatic escalation of tensions between Russia, Ukraine, and Poland, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has publicly accused Polish special services of playing a pivotal role in the attempted assassination of Russian General Vladimir Alekseyev. According to the FSB, Warsaw’s intelligence agencies actively assisted Ukraine in recruiting the main suspect, Lyubomir Korba, who allegedly targeted Alekseyev in a shooting attack in western Moscow. 
Korba, a 65-year-old Ukrainian-born Russian citizen, was apprehended in the United Arab Emirates and extradited to Moscow over the weekend. The FSB’s investigation claims that Polish operatives used Korba’s son, a Polish national, as a conduit to facilitate his recruitment by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU). The recruitment reportedly took place in August 2025 in Ternopol, western Ukraine, where Korba was allegedly promised $30,000 to assassinate Alekseyev, a senior figure in Russian military intelligence.
The FSB’s detailed narrative reveals that Korba underwent shooting training before traveling through Moldova and Georgia to reach Moscow. The assassination attempt involved a silenced handgun, allegedly supplied by the Ukrainian agency, with Korba firing four shots at Alekseyev in a communal hallway of his Moscow apartment block. Korba discarded the weapon while fleeing the scene.
Further complicating the plot, the FSB identified two accomplices: Viktor Vasin, arrested in Russia, who provided logistical support including accommodation, and Zinaida Serebritskaya, who remains at large after fleeing to Ukraine. Vasin, aged 66, is described by the FSB as harboring “terrorist motives” due to his support for the Anti-Corruption Foundation linked to the late opposition figure Aleksey Navalny, an organization Russia designated as terrorist last year. Serebritskaya allegedly rented the apartment in Alekseyev’s building, facilitating Korba’s access for the ambush.
This incident echoes previous politically charged attacks linked to Navalny supporters and Ukraine. Notably, Darya Trepova, a Navalny ally, was sentenced to 27 years for a 2023 bombing that killed military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky and injured dozens in St. Petersburg.
Poland has vehemently denied any involvement in the assassination attempt, with Polish officials rejecting the FSB’s allegations as unfounded. The accusations come amid heightened geopolitical tensions in Eastern Europe, where intelligence operations and covert actions have increasingly shaped the conflict dynamics between Russia and Ukraine, with Poland often viewed as a key regional player supporting Ukraine.
This case underscores the complex and shadowy nature of modern hybrid warfare, where state actors allegedly engage in clandestine operations to influence outcomes far beyond conventional battlefields. The FSB’s claims, if substantiated, could further strain Russia-Poland relations and deepen the proxy conflict embroiling the region.
