US Washington D.C. – In a significant development in the ongoing war against international drug trafficking, Colombian President Gustavo Petro has revealed that he has handed over a list of high-profile drug lords, operating from lucrative hubs like Dubai, Madrid, and Miami, to his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump. During a press conference following a meeting at the White House on February 3rd, President Petro emphasized the critical need for collaborative international efforts to bring these kingpins to justice. He stated, "The first line of drug trafficking is occupied by those living in Dubai, Madrid and Miami. I gave their names and those associated with them to President Trump. These are the main leaders. Their money is outside Colombia and we must jointly pursue it in cooperation with the intelligence services of various countries."
President Petro articulated his strategic vision, asserting that effectively combating transnational drug trafficking hinges on prioritizing the apprehension of these criminal network leaders. While acknowledging that some of these figures are Colombian, he stressed that they do not represent the majority, underscoring the international scope of the problem.

Interestingly, President Petro also clarified his stance on intelligence sharing with the United States. Despite previous announcements regarding a potential suspension of such cooperation in November 2025, following U.S. strikes on suspected drug-carrying vessels in the Caribbean, Petro admitted that he never formally canceled the intelligence sharing. Instead, he revealed that cooperation has been expanded, a decision he attributes to the borderless nature of drug trafficking and its associated financial flows.
